The Missa Prolationum is one of the most ambitious and fascinating works in musical history, comparable, for example, with Bach's Art of Fugue. It is performed only very seldom owing to its horrendous difficulty. Only few people know today that Johannes Ockeghem was as important for the whole of Renaissance music as were Leonardo and Michelangelo for their arts. The entire Mass is constructed entirely of canons. The listener is especially fascinated and challenged by the unprecedented and still unique part writing. Ensemble "L'ultima parola," which was founded expressly for this recording, delights with its balanced, absolutely congenial concept of the music and poetry, its tonal beauty and intonation.
