Got a Good Thing Goin' Big John Patton Tone Poet Series edition
Got a Good Thing Goin'
Big John Patton
Tone Poet Series edition
Hammond B3 organist Big John Patton's 1966 soul jazz manifesto Got a Good Thing Goin' was a showcase for the deep rapport between Patton and guitarist Grant Green who had appeared on all of Patton's prior Blue Note dates from his 1963 debut Along Came John to the 1965 classic Let 'Em Roll. Here the dynamic duo are backed by Hugh Walker on drums and Richard Landrum on congas for a five-song set of unrelenting soul power. Side A kicks off with the Patton-Green originals 'The Yodel' and 'Soul Woman' while Side B presents versions of Duke Pearson's 'Amanda,' Sam Cooke's 'The Shake,' and the Marvin Gaye hit 'Ain't That Peculiar' which was penned by Smokey Robinson.
Blue Note's Tone Poet Series represents the pinnacle of jazz reissues for anyone who appreciates pristine audio. Mastered by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) from the original analog master tapes. Pressed on 180g audiophile vinyl at RTI and presented in deluxe tip-on jackets.
