Don Siegel

Offbeat, entrancing drama, set near the end of the Civil War, stars Clint Eastwood as wounded Union soldier Corporal John McBurney in Louisiana, who is found by a girl and taken to a remote boarding school for young ladies to recuperate. McBurney's presence stirs up romantic feelings and jealousies and leads the headmistress (Geraldine Page) to take drastic measures to "protect" her charges.
