Freelance journalist Emily Merton has moved back to her hometown. For the first time in seventeen years she will be spending August 16 there-the anniversary of the day her childhood innocence died. While doing her best to block the date from her mind, she gets an assignment that throws her right back into the horror of that day and threatens to take away the one thing she has managed to hold on to since that time: her pride.
