Experience life on a small Yorkshire farm as Britain recovers from the Second World War in this semi-biographical rural mystery. Moving from town to country is more than a change of scenery for Mary, wife to hard working Tom and mother to three small children. As she struggles with her ever-increasing family, stark living conditions, poverty and loneliness, Mary is drawn to the company of the handsome and convivial Jack Netherfield. The neighbouring farmer flatters Mary and spoils her children, causing friction with the often absent Tom. As events plough even darker furrows, family secrets are overturned and relationships are changed forever.

About the Author

Edna Hunneysett was born in 1940 and spent her childhood on a remote farm on the Yorkshire moors. After passing her eleven-plus exam, she attended a convent boarding grammar school for six years. On leaving school, Edna was employed by the Inland Revenue. She married in 1961 and has eight children, many grandchildren and two great grandchildren. From 1977 to 1991, Edna worked part-time at a BBC local radio station. She then undertook further education achieving a BA (Hons) degree in Divinity in 1995 followed by an MA in 1998. Edna's first three books were published before she moved in 2014, with her husband, back to the Yorkshire moors where they live in a small village close to her roots.
