For young readers, I've just dropped a survival adventure game book entitled the, " Cold Island Challenge." It's one of those books that invite, " You " the reader, to choose where the adventure goes from a choice of two, sometimes three, possibilities. Middle school students have approved of this book.
The Cold Island Challenge is a survival adventure story that allows you to make choices. As you read the story, "You" can decide how the story goes. "You" and the other characters race cross-country over Cold Island, an imaginary territory off the coast of South America.
As you meet the challenge, no matter what choice you make, you will uncover certain histories and mysteries of the island. Many situations will have you talking to yourself.in your attempt to survive the Cold Island Challenge. As you continue this race, you unravel some histories and mysteries of the island. Survival techniques are based, loosely, on proven methods, and may help you advance in the story. You will come to THE END many times, sometimes as a winner, sometimes is a survivor. . When you reach, "The End", the race starts again.
This Challenge is cross-country race. It begins in the town of Wood Junction and ends in New Spice City, on the southern tip of Cold Island, 100 miles away! To reach New Spice City, you and your fellow athletes, including Babe Sullivan and Mack Middle, must climb mountains; swim across lakes and rivers; hike through the jungle: fend off gators, crocs, snakes and the elements. You will bicycle across the scorching desert, get lost in a cave and, maybe, find treasure in a mine.
You'll meet Thorny and his spider, Matilda. You just might discover evidence of an outlaw bunch; and camp on a mountaintop. Will you discover and translate the writings on an ancient stone slab?
"THE END," will come at different times, and for different reasons. You will talk to yourself. " Luck," helps but common sense is everything. You are free to go back and make another decision every time you reach, THE END. "Morse Code," The, "International Distress Signal" or, "SOS." (Three dots, three dashes, three dots) ...---... in print at the bottom of each page, is a reminder to begin the adventure again with differnt choices.
