A gifted intuitive, Dru Featherstone returns home to the mountains of North Carolina to start a new life in her grandparents' dilapidated cabin. She attempts to make a living doing psychic readings and soon finds herself becoming a psychic lackey to a wealthy but dysfunctional woman and her zealot son, both of whom draw her into the drama of their lives. She unintentionally falls for an itinerant cowboy who challenges her resolve not to become attached to another man and manages to break down the walls of her resistance. As Dru tries to use her intuitive powers to explain mysterious events happening around her, events that culminate in murder, she finds herself becoming more deeply ensnared in a web of deception that puts her own life in danger and shakes her confidence in her intuition.
