When Maggie's fiancé died on his way to join her in Texas, Maggie gave up on love -- just as she almost gave up on God. For ten years, Maggie has served others as a practical nurse without seeking a life for herself. But God has His own plans for Maggie when He places her in Annalee's home to tend her dying husband. Maggie's ingenuity and caring heart bring life changes to both Annalee's daughter and a baby orphaned by the Civil War. With a struggling farm and people depending on her, can Maggie regain the promise of a love "as sweet as honey on flapjacks"?
