Mucilages are generally normal product of metabolism formed within the cell (intra cellular formation ) or are produced without injury to the plant .mucilages are normaly physiological products .they are often found different part of the plants, for example in the epidermal cell of leaves (senna), seed coats (linseed), roots (marshmallow), barks(slippery elm) and middle lamella (aloe). Mucilages have certain plants hydrocolloid the are translucent amorphous substances and polymers of monosaccharide or mixed monosaccharide and many of them combined with uronic acids. Mucilages and gums have similar constituents and on hydrolysis yield mixture of sugars and uronic acids. Mucilages certain hydrophilic molecules, which can combine with water to forms viscous solutions or gels.
