Basically, This is Not What We Were Looking For...: for Orchestra
Asaf Peres
Basically, this is not what we were looking for... is an energetic and stubborn piece scored for a full symphony orchestra. Its focus is not on melodic or harmonic development, but rather on abrupt explosions of sound, eerie cluster drones, and stark timbral contrasts. Most of the instruments relentlessly repeat the same note or small collection of notes throughout the piece in different rhythmic placements, creating a musical platform on which, timbre, dynamics, and texture take precedence.
