An observer could possibly believe that the handsome Colonial Doctor dancing there in London with Lady Jane Pomeroy possibly could be an accomplished swordsman and marksman. No observer could dream that this same big man would in the next several months be a painted savage in the wilderness of the New World! Orphaned as a baby, Thomas Todd McKaye was raised in Carolina by his two Godfathers. The prominent Carolina physician, Doctor Henry Woodward taught Todd his letters and skills as a physician. Atsego, the Susquehannock Indian taught Todd the skills of the forest, the bow, and the hatchet. The Tuscaroras adopted him as a member of the Turtle Clan and called him Tawde. Hotly pursued by the king's men, the young Doctor fled from England back to the New World. He hardly arrived in Philadelphia when he was forced to flee again. This time he disappeared into the wilds of Penn's Woods. There, his adventures began! The first Atotarho, "He who combs snakes from his hair", made a prediction as he lay on his deathbed. "There will come a warrior to our people of the Five Nations {Iroquois} who will be one of us and will not be one of us. This warrior will become great among us and you will know him for his name will be that of a weapon!"
