One for the Road was formed in 1995 by singer/songwriter Theresa Rhodes and guitarist/arranger Kiet Nguyen. Theresa's childhood in India, Africa and Europe merged with Kiet's oriental background produce a unique blend of influences which are reflected in the band's intriguingly eclectic sound. Drawing inspiration from Apollinaire to Zimmerman via Jack Kerouac, Theresa's atmospheric lyrics are complemented by an equally-diverse palette of moods and rhythms fired by Kiet's tight, intense arrangements. One for the Road will draw you into a compelling netherworld of contrasting sounds and emotions: The crystal purity of melodies and voice set against the harshness of the landscapes and broken lives the songs evoke - as well as the guts of a band firing on all cylinders. East meets the Far West, Voodoo - Zulu, Sweet'n Sour, Honey - Bourbon. This is 'One for the Road' that can be consumed without moderation. Review by Barry Gilbert.
