British action sequel following the hardened police detectives of the Flying Squad, Inspector Regan (John Thaw) and Sergeant Carter (Dennis Waterman), in which the high-speed pursuit of a gang of ruthless bank robbers results in the death of an innocent bystander and the near fatal injury of Regan's favourite driver. Ordered by their new chief Dilke (Nigel Hawthorne) to apprehend the criminals by whatever means, Regan and Carter find themselves relying on the information of their old boss Jupp (Denholm Elliot), who has just been sent down on corruption charges.
