In 1947, Antonio Arriaga, (Toni) left Spain fleeing Franco and arrived in the Yucatan Peninsula in The Republic of Port Itzé with his inheritance and all his belongings in one suitcase. Back then in Itzé his inheritance was close to a fortune. It served him for a years-worth of rent, three meals a day and ten thousand acres of fertile soil to plant coffee on the eastern region of the republic. In 1974 Toni by then a successful businessman traveled to Rome. There he met Angelo Mancini a 22 year old visionary destined for great things. Hearing Toni's story of success Angelo decided to join him and move to the other side of the planet. That union marked the fusion of two families, Arriaga/ Mancini an unspoken pact sealed in Piazza Navonathat would prevail through three generations. Just when life seemed to smile on them and they transferred their empire to their kids: Marcela and Daniel, civil war broke out in Itzé. As in all lands that have been conquered, occupied and pillaged in Itzé dwelled hate and a vengeance: "The mechanism: " the reasoning behind attacking and defending. A suppressed animosity that the population hid like a time bomb. Marcela and Daniel at the front of the family empire were forced to face the greatest challenge of their lives: To hide, reveal or continue to carry all those terrible family secrets that had been buried in an underground chamber for decades. But first Marcela and Daniel had to face their own shadows: The dark past that grew heavy within, and would take them on a voyage through great European and American cities.
