On May 18, 2017, Chris Cornell, lead vocalist for the rock band Soundgarden, is found dead in a hotel room in Detroit. It's been over twenty years since that short period of time marked by grunge and by that last wave of musical rebellion. Kurt Cobain of Nirvana and Layne Staley of Alice in Chains have been dead for years, and now fate has come for Cornell as well. A protagonist with an unknown name, with his sun and his time hanging over the world, moves away from home and family, from any errand and work life. He just wants to walk and write, write and talk with the last of those facing the audience, the last still alive, and still on stage. Eddie Vedder. We Were Grunge is the story of this arduous path, this wrangling of souls that bottomed out and now compete for anything left, in the meanness, passion, disgrace and truth, until the final count to figure out if there's still a difference between succumbing and resisting.
