This is my story. As a youngster, I was a good kid, striving to be the best person I could be. In high school, I took a cue from my hero, President John F. Kennedy, and set my sights on meeting my service obligations. I determined to serve God and then Country. In the service to God, I spent two years in Central America and South America sharing my Christian beliefs with othersAfter, I strove to serve my Country. There was a call to arms. I answered the call and joined the Army. I prepared for war. I excelled in Basic Training and my artillery Advance Individual Training. Then, I extended the training in a Non Commissioned Officer's (NCO) school. I graduated as a Sergeant. In the On the Job Training (OJT), I excelled and was promoted to Staff Sergeant. In Vietnam, I was assigned to Con Thien (A-4) on the DMZ to a 105mm howitzer battery. Six months into my tour, my artillery unit rotated home and I was assigned to an air defense unit with Quad 50 caliber machine guns mounted on a truck and twin 40mm cannons mounted on a tank chassis. In both units, I experienced intense and vicious combat. I never shirked engaging the enemy. I looked the enemy in the eye and kicked his ass. This story tells the tale of these experiences.
