The publishing of The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole, which began as a high society joke in 1764, gave rise to the genre known as Gothic Horror. Humanity found a strange comfort in these early brutish tales, weaving their own darkness into such a horrifying tapestry. Little did they know that such darkness truly lurked in the world and not just in the depths of their souls. In 1818, Mary Shelley published the well-received work Frankenstein. Praised for its originality in the genre, the novel held a deeper and more truthful secret: monsters, magic, and the living incarnations of evil and dread are real and not just whispers around campfires. There are those walking this globe who bask in the delicious villainy of immortality, as well as those bred to destroy their existence. Through the multiple millennia of humanity's existence, a fickle balance has been maintained, creating a thin veil of feigning protection. Fate would have it that a simple alchemist of Swiss-German blood, hailing from Naples, Italy, would be the extra feather to tip the scales. Victor Frankenstein has set forth on the path to fully realize his thesis under the tutelage of Menes the Mummy. He walks behind the veil, a newborn creature of the night, with a singular drive to make his mark... to leave his legacy in the Dark Universe.
