Book One of the series, titled "When we built a space elevator", follows the people producing the elevator at Ellemental Space in New Mexico, as they conspire with the Pentagon to launch it before anyone finds out and can stop it. Enough Rope is a hard science fiction series by Phillips, exploring a future in which the first space elevator was built in the 20s. This is a disruptive technology, something we've become familiar with, but there are fortunes being made, building rockets. The rocket set are not happy and face financial ruin if the elevator is successful. What will they do?
