William Wilder and his best friend Shackleton the Irish Terrier find themselves stuck on a ship called the Tempura heading for Cuba. Whilst on board he finds a map with a riddle for some treasure hidden somewhere in the mountains of Vinales. With no return ship back home for a month William decides to go and find this treasure in the hope that if he finds it, his father will no longer have to work for the Italians anymore. But he is not the only one looking for the treasure, the Captain of the Tempura is looking for it too. William needs to make sure he gets there before the Captain if he has any chance of a better life. The race is on.
