Daniel the prophet was, first, Daniel the captive. As a teenager he was taken captive to Babylon in 605 B. C. Daniel spent years serving under King Nebuchadnezzar, and his son, Belshazzar. And Daniel served them faithfully. Daniel lived in a pagan culture, and yet he remained faithful to his God. Daniel interpreted dreams and carried out administrative responsibilities. And he did it all knowing that God was in complete control. Daniel means: Yahweh is my judge. Daniel lived out the meaning of his name alongside of his three faithful friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. They were given pagan names, trained in pagan ways, and yet, they stayed true to the God of their childhood. They teach us that it's possible to live above the polluted culture surrounding us. Daniel's friends escaped a fiery furnace, and Daniel escaped the mouths of hungry lions. As Daniel and his friends demonstrated their faithfulness, they discovered a faithful God. Daniel is a book about history and prophecy. You will be amazed at what you read as historical, and then you will be encouraged as you begin to understand the prophecy contained in the book of Daniel. I really believe that you will find it difficult to set this book down. It will open your eyes to what is history, and what is yet future prophecy. God raised Kings and Kingdoms, but He also lowered them. There will be only so many earthly Kingdoms before God's Kingdom, the final Kingdom, the everlasting Kingdom, shall come. Let us pray as Jesus taught us, "Thy KINGDOM COME"
