Tis the season to be jolly. But Minerva Archer was widowed just a few months ago, and a man whose guilt she doubts is headed for the noose, so not all is merry and bright. Indeed, as sheriff she has half a dozen pressing problems to solve, not the least being two mysterious deaths, with no idea how to go about it.
