It's the year 2030, after the Third World War. In this new world, a chemical leak has caused a third of the world's population to be born with special abilities. Some of these become heroes and work for the good of mankind. Others use their superhuman abilities to control criminal organizations, bent on gaining power and creating anarchy. We meet young Shadow locked away in Governor's Asylum, a place where heroes go to heal when the weight of their powers destroys their minds. We go back two weeks to meet Luke, the hero whose abilities and feats of courage have made him a household name. Luke is the most powerful human on the planet, or so he believes until he meets Shadow. In Shadow, Luke sees the potential for a great hero that could one day be his successor, so he begins training him. But Shadow is also attracting the attention of the anti-heroes, and Luke must fight for Shadow. Because if Shadow falls, the world falls with him.
