The historical context refers to the circumstances and incidents surrounding an event. This context is formed by everything that, in some way, influences the event when it happens. A fact is always tied to its time: that is, to its time. Shakespeare's Sonnets are a set of 154 poems in the strophic form of the English sonnet, covering subjects such as love, beauty, politics, and mortality. They were written, probably, over several years, to be finally published, except the first two, in 1609; Issues 138 ("When I love swears that she is made of truth") and 144 ("Two loves have I, of comfort and despair") had previously been published in a 1599 miscellany entitled The Passionate Pilgrim ("The Passionate Pilgrim ").
