Arthur Russell

The Philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer Arthur Russell

In early 19th century Germany, one man attempted to make sense of existence. He analyzed it as belonging to either one of the two states. One of "representation," or a world in itself, a system independent of our experience and that of "will" which is our lives being repetitively directed to attaining some goal. In one broad fell swoop, he asserted life to be dull and meaningless and also presented a solution to this recurring misery. To him, to escape the mundaneness and drudgery of life, one could either become an ascetic to escape it or rely on music to embrace it. This book sheds light on the life and works of Arthur Schopenhauer.

Born to a prominent family, he was a cultured and well-traveled man who developed derision toward religion from a young age. He set out on his own path to understanding the world around him as part of the human experience.

His thoughts influenced a number of areas surrounding human conduct and living. However, he is most famous for propagating a worldview that was discerned by Buddhist theology and devised a philosophical system for making the most of it. Come and take a peek inside his brilliant mind.
