Songs of Ilium Antipodean Writer

Songs of Ilium is part of the Ancient Greek Heroes series: a collection of original poetry celebrating the heroes and heroines of the myths, stories and legends that came to form the bedrock of the Ancient Greek pantheon. Everyone has heard of the Trojan War - the ten year siege of Troy by Grecian armies to recover the beautiful Helen, abducted by Prince Paris from the palace of Menelaus. The story was originally told by the blind poet Homer in his epic Iliad: and has been recounted hundreds of time since. Perhaps one of the reasons for its popularity is its plethora of stunning characters: Agamemnon, Achilles, Hector, Priam, Ulysses, Ajax, Helen, Cassandra... There's something for everyone: the warriors are noble, the women are beautiful, and the unfolding war is tragic in its consequences. For most of the victors (Ulysses and Agamemnon are classic examples) their spoils end up slipping through their fingers, and very few succeed in returning home. Read on to discover first hand the madness and despair of Ajax, the cynical humour of King Priam, the weary acceptance of Agamemnon, and the brave fatalism of Hector: heroes remembered in the Songs of Ilium!
