Itis not merely a chord dictionary, but aguided tour through how chords function inmusic. Functional harmony concepts areexplained in layman's terms as much aspossible, making these concepts available toguitar players who have no training in MusicTheory. Learning to use concepts such as cadences, borrowed chords, and secondary dominantswill surely improve the quality ofcomposition for those writing originalmusic. Many of these musical concepts areput to use in the section on First PositionChords and Functions, so even players witha robust vocabulary of chords might findthis section enlightening. Advanced players can move around thebook to suit their needs, but I encourageyou to spend some time adding thesefunctions to your musical tool box if youhave not already done so.
