Darcey Owen has just graduated from high school and is looking forward to enjoying her last summer until college starts. That is, until one bad decision takes all of that from her. Now, faced with having to spend all summer doing community service and working to pay off a fine, Darcey's summer turns out to be much different than she expected. Things go from bad to worse when her mother, who's never been a part of her life, is suddenly back in town and moves in with Darcey and her grandmother. With the help of a few new friends acquired along the way, Darcey makes the best of the worst summer, and finally learns the truth about why she had to grow up without a conventional family.
