There is no such thing as Buddhism, for it is not one thing, but many. It would be more accurate to say that there are Buddhisms, many different Buddhisms.

In this book I am going to put forth an dangerous idea. That the Buddhism of the Buddha does not currently exist in the real world. I call the original teaching and practice of the Buddha "Nikaya Buddhism." The Theravada is the closest to this, but even they miss the mark.

The second dangerous idea I put put forth is that Mahayana Buddhism is not the Buddhism of the Buddha. This is because they were deceived into accepting as true, Sutras that were, in all honestly, forgeries. This should have major consequences for those who claim to be following the historical Buddha.
