When God created Adam, he was created fully in the image of God. And when the woman was taken out of him, the image of God was not added or subtracted from, rather it was duplicated. And the two beings Adam and Ada'am, were the image of God, male and female, yet they were one. Because sin had not yet made its entry into their existence, there was no fear, no shame and no hesitation within them. Neither of them felt threatened. There were no control issues, no calculating, no game playing. They were open, naked and transparent in each others presence. There was an awareness that God had made them for each other, that He had specifically fashioned this union to be inter-dependant. They were to know intimacy in the fullest sense of the word, far beyond their own 'one flesh' relationship. The kind of relationship that would reflect not only union with one another, but also with God. It is a mystery, yet God's design is something of Christs love - His commitment and faithfulness to us His bride, and our union with Him - would be displayed in marriage union. It would showcase to the world, His care and provision for His own, and the high place of honour He has prepared for us. There are challenges in this book for men and women; challenges also for Christian marriages, and a section on other relationships, examining God's view on these. Gender equality has been an issue for many generations, and even today in nations where gender equality is professed to be in place, it is often simply suppressed, and expresses itself in other ways, which are often a danger to life and living.
