Gaspard Gautier is a gryphon on a mission to save other gryphons and add them to the dwindling numbers at the Gryphon castle. After a recently failed negotiation with his son, his personal life is in shambles yet he embarks on another mission with a crisis of conscience. The vile situation he finds upon locating two new gryphons is like a scene from a horror movie until the real nightmare begins. The woman he has searched for his entire life shows up only to think he caused the evil she witnessed. He tries to explain, but the gun in her hand leaves him no room for negotiation. He wakes up weak and disoriented in Draoithe's infirmary barely still alive. Convalescence is going to take a few weeks he doesn't have and the woman who shot him is now his dragonsworn servant. With his mission a failure and no way to negotiate with his commanders about the timeline he will fail to meet, he finds himself in the midst of a midlife crisis. She is everything, and he must find a way to claim her even though relationships with the dragonsworn are forbidden and punishable by death.
