The book is certainly enjoyable and an eye-opener to the intricacies of State. The author has kept it in a traditional, less modern style of writing. When Machiavelli wrote his classic treatise on the exercise of power, the main threat to a Prince's position came from his enemies. This was so from the Trojan War to the Cold War - but is it still so today?
The author challenges this received wisdom to argue that in today's fragmented, globalized world, from which the Princes of feudal and monarchical times have largely disappeared, the main threat to contemporary leaders comes from the acceleration of history and the proliferation of unforeseen events.
