Crop diseases are known to be caused by various abiotic and biotic agents. Among the biotic agents, microbial plant pathogens -- fungi, bacteria, phytoplasmas, viruses and viroids -- accounts for significant quantitative and qualitative losses in agricultural and horticultural crops.
