To try his students' sagacity and intuition, Leonardo da Vinci used to insert clues in his drawings and notes, thus creating encoded rebuses that only the most skilled students succeeded in deciphering. Many of these enigmas, cleverly hidden in a symbology of very difficult interpretation, are still unsolved.
