Conceptual and Non-conceptuality in Perception: Cognitivism and Perception Emmanuel Akintona
Conceptual and Non-conceptuality in Perception: Cognitivism and Perception
Emmanuel Akintona
Recently there is a serious polemics among philosophers of perception on the nature, character and the content of human percetual experience. While the conceptualist argues that every perception is conceptually derived when perceiving the world, the nonconceptualist claims that there is a nonconceptual basis for every perceptual experience. This book tries to reconcile the conceptualist and the nonconceptualist and argues that human conceptual capacity to a large extent plays a prominient role in determining the state of his perceptual content. The complementarism of the two schools of thought overcomes the epistemological deficiencies inherent in any unilateral approach to understanding the nature and process of cognition thereby the book provides a more comprehensive understanding of human cognitive process.
