Biometrics Minutiae Detection and Feature Extraction
Anchal Garg
Biometrics is the most widely used area which helps in identifying a person via his behavioral and physiological properties. The most matured and accepted biometric system is the fingerprint recognition system. It has been proved that fingerprint is the most accurate biometric trait as compared to other traits. Fingerprint contains complex patterns of stripes, called ridges. There exists some gap between the ridges, called valleys. The pattern is unique for a particular finger. Even two fingers of a same person have different patterns. In fingerprint matching system, we compare these patterns and decide whether the two given samples are from same finger or from different fingers. There are many patterns like: ridge end (termination), bifurcation, Lake Etc. We considered only two among all these minutiae i.e. Ridge end and Bifurcation
