Studies of various diversified lectins may serve as a tool with enormous promise to the biotechnologists/ geneticists working in the field of proteomics/ genomics for finding the molecular basis of various infectious diseases, to new approaches for their prevention and also in development of new vaccines. To attain an effective use of all the available diverse data on lectins, lectins databases have been developed with information pertaining to taxonomic, structural, domain architecture, molecular sequence, carbohydrate structure and blood group specificity. These databases will serve scientific community to provide required information in various formats.
