Teaching a Project-driven Course: Methods and Assessment in Arts Project Management

The development of competences demands more than pure theoretical work. ?The independent practice constitutes the final step that allows the student to pass (usually alone) from comprehension to action? (Gauthier et al. 2005). Therefore, teachers are called to provide the students with contextualized opportunities to practice independently and build their own knowledge. Project Driven Learning (PDL) is a pedagogical strategy that provides such opportunity, and is related to learning theories supporting the notion that knowledge is built, not received, that this construction occurs mainly in the interaction with others and in a more efficacious way within a realistic context. This book describes the first-time implementation of the course ?Arts Project Management? as a PDL oriented educational intervention with Arts students. The conclusions of critical analysis about strengths and weaknesses of methods and assessment, and subsequent regulation proposals, are directed to Higher Education teachers trying to implement PDL in any field, in the hope of making a small contribution to the collective enterprise of achieving a learning-centered approach in our HE pedagogy.
