The purpose of this book is two-fold. It can be used as a reader because it exercises the use of language in a mix of colourful vignettes on Jamaican life. For this reason, it is pitched at children learning the beauty of literature, and ways in which language can be expressed to excite the imagination and bring the senses alive. Beyond that, it offers to the reader of any age a glimpse into a lifestyle in the Jamaican countryside, which many hold dear, and about which others can learn. Perhaps in these pages, you will see yourself, or be reminded of bygone days and experiences to which you can relate. Especially for Jamaicans living abroad (the diaspora), perhaps these anecdotes will bring back pleasant memories and treasures you would want to pass on to your children and grandchildren.
