Throughout history women have decidedly picked up arms, have risen as respected leaders and fought alongside the men. They challenged gender stereotypes and raised their voices in light of their beliefs, justice and the common good. They fought ferociously in battle, answering to a higher calling and in some cases were superior to the men in their strategies, skill and leadership. They hunted, killed and fought sometimes with nothing more than their bare hands when the time to act arose, and none were as fearless as these warrior women who challenged the notion of the timid female and the submissive wife. Women throughout the ages have challenged gender stereotypes, have become respected rulers and generals and influenced the tide of equality with their courage and tenacity despite all odds.
