I have written this guide to assist you in living with your ostomy; be it ileostomy, colostomy, stoma or indeed any other type of ostomy. An ostomy is where a small part of the large or small intestine is pulled out to assist with defecation with a bag attached over and around the ostomy as the large bowl (the colon) or the small intestine (ileum) are not working correctly. The journey to any ostomy is a bumpy one and is sometimes sprung on people who wake from surgery with no idea of what or how to manage life with an ostomy. I was lucky enough to have the choice of an ileostomy or an internal 'J' pouch. I can happily say I choose 'Harry' my (ileostomy). I have lived with Harry for 7 years now as I write this for you in 2018. As you read this, I want you to know I am with you.
