In Book One of the Great Garmando Series, Maddie accidentally cracks a family heirloom ornament while dancing at the Great Yuletide Feast. Sent to her room, she falls asleep and wakes in Ornamento, a magical land inside her family's Christmas Tree. Chased by the broken ornament, the Queen of the Magic Lands, Maddie joins her favorite ornaments - the Nutcracker in Purple Pajamas, the Toy Master, the great dancer Aransophicles, the Waterelf and Alibaba with his flying carpet, Omdalay - in the Fellowship of the Star. They must journey through the Christmas Tree Land to the Great Northern Star to find her way home. Along the way, Maddie discoveries what it means to grow up.
