God, Me and Those Flying Machines
Becky Mclendon
Lowell Farrand, pioneer test pilot for the first powered parachute, has been dubbed the "go to" guy when it comes to testing and consulting on homebuilt aircraft. Everyone around his large region value his knowledge and ready willingness to "be there" when he is asked to come. His face reflects wisdom and passion for all things aviation. He and his wife and inspection teammate Gaylia of 65 years live on a quaint grass airstrip, Zollinger Field in Ligonier, Indiana not far from Goshen Airport where he began his flying career at the ripe old age of 14. They are parents to two sons, Grant and Jim along with grandchildren and great grandchildren. He has won numerous awards through the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and is recipient of the Wright Brothers "Master Pilots" Award for Fifty Years of Dedicated Service in Aviation Safety. All who know him can attest that he is one of the most seasoned pilots in the United States a dedicated servant of God, and to his fellow man. He remains active to this day, still conducting inspections, certification of aircraft, and test flying.
