After barely escaping Phoenix and the evil vampires, Ember returns to the bear enclave with Sasha, who is still recovering from his wounds. Old Bear gives her a new guardian named Michaela. The she-bear doesn't seem to like her very much, nor is she kind to ember during their daily sparing sessions. Ember learns more about the secret society her parents were a part of, and Old Bear begins to teach her about her powers. Eventually, the werebears come up with a plan to attack Phoenix and retrieve Ember's notebook. It will require the help of the werewolves, and another vampire clan. Little do they know that there are traitors in their midsts.
