Romy Park comes back to Monterey after almost five years away, making her reputation as a top art curator in Manhattan. Her young cousin, Jae, is about to start college and Romy wants to be near him as he studies at UC Berkeley. But coming home to Monterey brings back painful memories. A decade previously, on the day she had to watch her childhood sweetheart, Connor, marry someone else, Romy, her parents and her aunt (Jae's mother) were involved in multi-car pile-up and Romy, the only survivor, was left in a coma for a year. Still suffering from survivor's guilt, and the trauma of that day, Romy has managed to gather enough experience and funds to open her own small gallery in her hometown. Never liking surprises, Romy is hyper-organized, so much so that Jae and is best friend Moon, in town to visit her, tease her mercilessly. Romy knows she should be less anal-retentive about life, but she is determined that her business will be a success. With the support of her old boss in Manhattan, she reaches out to several artists in the area but her biggest dream is to secure an exhibit by reclusive artist, Milo Keys. Milo Keys is a man in torment. Five years ago, his beloved wife, Lily, committed suicide out of the blue and since then Milo has lived a half-life. Reclusive and isolated in his renovated old lighthouse, Milo and his dog are a self-contained unit, avoiding other people mostly, but when he meets Romy, something sparks inside of him. Resistant to her idea of showing his work again, he nevertheless feels drawn to the young woman and begins to paint again after many years. Romy and Milo begin to find common ground and become friends, and before long, both of them realize there is something special between them. Romy brings Milo out of his shell, and Milo gives Romy the confidence to pursue her dream of making her gallery a success.
