The epic Song of The Cid appears here in an authoritative edition by the renowned Cidian scholar Alberto Montaner. The Carmen Campidoctoris, probably written while the Cid was still alive, appears in both Latin and Spanish original languages. The Romances viejos of the Cid provide yet another dimension to the Cid's heroic myth-and the times in which it was created.

Created by renowned Spanish scholars and an award-winning American poet, these Songs of the Cid are a landmark event in Hispanic literary studies. A must-have for every college and university collection!

Alberto Montaner Frutos (Zaragoza, 1963), a Hispanic and Arabist philologist, historian and poet, specializes in Cidian studies, both historical and literary. His editions of the Cantar de mio Cid (1993-2016), now part of the Classical Library of the Spanish Royal Academy, are considered the standard for Cidian studies.

Ángel Escobar Chico (Zaragoza, 1964) received his degree in Classical Philology from the Complutense University of Madrid (1987) and his Doktor der Philosophie from the Freie Universität, Berlín (1990). He is Professor of Latin Philology in the Department of Ancient

Sciences, University of Zaragoza.

Dan Veach, the founding editor of Atlanta Review, one of the leading international poetry journals, has been honored with the Willis Barnstone Translation Prize. His book of Iraqi war poetry, Flowers of Flame (Michigan State University Press, 2008) won an Independent Publisher's Book Award. His translation of all the major Anglo-Saxon poetry, Beowulf & Beyond, has just appeared from Lockwood Press.
