A World of Nightmares

When colonists first landed on Ylse, they thought it a second Earth. But soon the planet's true nature revealed itself as their dreams turned deadly. Constant nightmares plagued the colonists and they learned that their dreams could turn into action, drawing them out of the safety of the protected colony into the woods and the mouths of the creatures of the night that lingered near the easy prey. Helpless to the nightmares of the planet, colonists barricaded themselves and prayed for an end to the night.
Five Days of Peace

Soon the colonists discovered that for five days each year, the nightmares receded and they could leave the colony in search of the plants that formed a key element of their diet and their survival. Five days was just enough to reach the farthest of the plants and Jarl is assigned to reach those plants. But as the peace begins and he starts his familiar trek into the woods, he finds himself facing one of the deadly creatures, who offers an unusual greeting. Is this a gesture of peace, or just another way to lure humans to their deaths?
