Suzanne Danilov, ambitious young Field Engineer for the U. S. E. P. A., is dispatched as Incident Commander to a massive train wreck that has devastated a small town. Driving away at dawn from her husband and young son, she is eager to prove her leadership and her technical mastery.



She is not prepared for Rick, charismatic Deputy Chief of the Springfield Fire Department. In a sensual daze after their first night together, Suzanne must manage an escalating series of confrontations, environmental disasters. fiery accidents and a rowdy Town Meeting, all under the cold-eyed scrutiny of the national press, while struggling with what to do about Rick and the family she has left behind.



Lee Richmond is a professional writer. A graduate of Williams College, awarded a two-year literary fellowship, he drove night taxi in Cambridge, Massachusetts while writing a hippie novel, "High on Gold," which was published to good reviews (Charterhouse, Avon, Piscataqua Press). A video writer and director, he has created hundreds of educational and training productions, winning dozens of national awards.
