The Malverne Diamonds, also known as "The Tears of Death" a necklace of matchless diamonds at least four of which dark and horrible histories. On the eve of their sale by Lady Malverne, the widow of Sir Julius Malverne, they are stolen under the nose of Inspector Anthony Slade. Yet what is the inspector to make of the fact that the cracksman is discovered unconscious before the open safe while the necklace is missing.
