Axel feels he owes the fact that he has transformed into a fulfilled, thoughtful and contemplative man to his 'loving, fantastic relationships with women'.

Looked after in the Amazonian jungle by a primitive tribe, he has learnt that 'we in the western world have lost our sense of commonality, of human cohesion and we are altogether faced with a total lack of true, honest and legitimate leadership, which has resulted, amongst other hardships, in a chaotic and senseless multiplication of our species'.

Heavily medicated for a couple of years after contracting pulmonary tuberculosis, Axel finishes his business course and is employed by a French trading company in Brazil, sourcing items to be exported to North America, Europe and Asia.
