A friend in the same VFW post where I am a member asked, "Why did I write Money with Benefits?" I told him I would get back to him with my response. Truthfully, I needed time to think about how I would answer. My friend has a wide audience who follow him on social media. This is the response I sent. Mike, I want to write. Having been a financial advisor for fifty years and two weeks, I am retired and one of my daughters now runs the financial advisory business I began. I, and more importantly, my clients have come to trust her. I wrote this book, because I believe that 90% or more of Americans do not understand the financial power available to them. Everything we purchase cost more than we realize. That's true whether we use credit or cash. There is however another way, a third method that converts debt into cash. More powerful than an IRA, more usable than a 401(k). It doesn't take away from these two programs, but adds substantially to them. A young couple could have an additional half million dollars at retirement. Retirees could save a few thousand dollars every year. If only they knew how!All this without changing their life styles. The irony is that many people already have what they need to make this work. They just need a blueprint, a foundation for their success. I learned the concepts inside this book fifty years ago, and they are as strong today as they have ever been. Thanks Mike, for your support and for all you do for the rest of us. It is a common and costly practice to use credit cards, banks, and other lenders when making large purchases. Those who use cash are not in a better position, and frequently lose much more than those who use some form of debt. After learning this long proven method, and you will recognize it, you will be in the best position of all. When you are finished paying for a product, all those dollars you sent to the lender, will be returned to you in the form of cash, and it is liquid. Available to you in your own personal 'savings type' account. Those who have used cash previously, will be rewarded twice. They will still have their accounts plus the money back from every large purchase. Debt and financed purchases are powerful, unique weapons when used properly by families and by business owners. You won't recognize it as such, but it will at the least, be as good as any cash management system available to you.
